It was stronger at the beginning when it started explaining how one district overspent than later when it spent perhaps just a bit too much time on the interim superintendent's background, feature style, but still strong. While the best stories about education are about education and not peripheral aspects, this story stands out. "

This was the one feature story that truly stopped me in my tracks: It was a smart observation (I'm of a similar age and have fond memories of the independence that came with a bicycle), and tying it to competitive riding later in life is really insightful. It's also the best written story of the bunch, with a smooth and confident tone, and it offers real insight into the people it profiles. Great job.

In unprecedented times like these, these kinds of stories can give hope to immigrants of all stripes. It is a brief story, but it says plenty with the photos of Rose and her daughter.

Very clever, but not too cutesy headlines that draw readers in. Maybe too clever at times (Took me a second to get the Pride and Buc-ees headlines). But I'll take a paper that challenges me over one that settles for the easy pun every time.

Exceptional reporting— numerous sources and sources refusing to comment though their public comments are noted — and excellent, engaging writing! A grand example of comprehensive Journalism. While public libraries are defined as serving everyone, this account shows how a segment of community culture can insert and direct its perspective to limit universality in the library’s collection and staffing.

Whoever approved this story and pitched it should be commended. Treats the topic with just the right feeling. Who wouldn't want to spend 3 hours ?

Good reporting in depth with sourcing and detail! Especially the story on partisanship affecting non-partisan elective positions: city council. The two other stories in entry were accountably reflective of the sourcing and details cited above.

Terrific lead, and a great in-depth look at a coach who stands out, and why. It helps to have a terrific person to profile, with great quotes. But it's not just the quotes that make this story so readable: Kara Lawson is a compelling subject, and the writer does a wonderful job of capturing that.
